Home Renovation: What Plumbing Work Will You Need?
DB+

If you’re starting a home renovation project, you know that there are a million details you have to pay attention to. It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin.

That’s why we put together this handy guide. Today, we’ll take a look at all the plumbing details you need to keep track of during your renovations. This guide will help you simplify your process, and help make sure that you have got everything covered.

Before Renovations Begin

There are a few steps you can take to make sure your renovations proceed smoothly.

First, download and print out our renovation checklist! Keep this handy to make sure you’ve got all the details covered.

Next, make sure all faucets and fixtures that could be affected by these renovations are working properly.

It’s best to capture this plumbing in action, either by taking pictures or videos. This way, you have an established baseline to show your contractors.

If you uncover plumbing issues as you do this, be sure to contact a plumber right away. You want to address these issues before renovations begin. Otherwise, you run the risk of burying an ongoing issue in new walls/floors and causing massive problems down the road.

During Renovations

While your walls are down and your pipes are exposed, take the opportunity to think about any future renovations you might wish to do. This way, new lines or extensions can be put in place now.

The goal during your renovations is to make it as simple as possible to address plumbing issues, both present and future. You can save yourself a lot of stress and hassle by preparing your plumbing for future renovations, even if they are years away.

Also, you want to keep a close eye on your plumbing as renovation work progresses. You might start the job with no leaks in sight, but after a few days of construction, new pinhole leaks can emerge. If so, have a plumber take a look at them as soon as possible.

Post Renovation Checklist

Once renovations are complete, it’s time to make sure that your plumbing system is functioning as good as, or better than, it was before work began.

This is a good time to bring out the photos and videos you made before renovations got underway.

Confirm adequate water flow and pressure through all fixtures. Test everything against the photos and videos you recorded.

Your main goal now is to make sure the functionality of your plumbing system is back to normal. But you also want to make sure that you are avoiding bigger problems down the road.
